Read Deeply. Think Boldly. Get College Ready.

The Next Chapter Difference

Unlike traditional tutoring, which often focuses on reinforcing classroom material or improving grades, NCS immerses students in a true college-level academic experience. Taught by college faculty, it invites strong readers into seminar-style discussions where the emphasis is not on getting the “right” answer, but on developing original ideas, engaging deeply with complex texts, and learning to think critically in a collaborative setting. Seminars with Next Chapter Scholars challenge students to operate at a higher intellectual level—mirroring the expectations of college coursework. In doing so, it not only strengthens their analytical and communication skills, but also provides meaningful mentorship and personalized letters of recommendation that reflect each student’s performance in an authentic academic environment.

How It Works

At Next Chapter Scholars, students at welcomed into a college-level seminar. Over four weeks, we meet virtually once per week for a focused, discussion-driven hour led by their professor. These aren’t surface-level conversations: students dive into the text, unpack key passages, and learn how to think, speak, and analyze at a high academic level. With guidance from their professor, they actively read, annotate, and build the habits of serious scholars.

Between sessions, students read about a quarter of a full-length work—engaging with authors like Kurt Vonnegut, Mary Shelley, and Plato (among many others). The result? A rigorous, immersive experience that pushes students beyond passive reading into confident – and connected – college-level readers.
